MAATA Members receive Service award and Fellowship Designation
The NATA announced the Service Awards for 2008 and the MAATA landed 5 recipients. The Athletic Trainer Service Award recognizes NATA members for their contributions to the athletic training profession and the association. Although this is a national honor, local, state and district service is the focus of this award. Representing District III are:

The NATA announced the inaugural recipients of its Fellowship Program which was jointly developed by the NATA and the REF.
Qualified candidates for this recognition must be Athletic trainers who have earned a doctoral degree or its equivalent and have been a certified member of the NATA for the last ten years. Candidates must complete a comprehensive application process for consideration for this award. Representing District III are:

Western Carolina’s Scifers named Part Time Dean

Western Carolina announced the appointment of Jay Scifers part-time associate dean for College of Health and Human Sciences advancement and special projects.  Scifers is the founding director of the Athletic Training Education Program and an associate professor of health sciences and physical therapy.

Hubbard Named 2008 New Investigator Award Winner

Tricia Hubbard, PhD, ATC of UNC-Charlotte was named the winner of the 2008 New Investigator Award by the NATA Research Foundation Awards Program.  This prestigious award is named and given in honor of Dr. Freddie Fu.  
 
Dr. Hubbard is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina Charlotte and the Director of the Undergraduate Athletic Training Program in the Department of Kinesiology.  Dr. Hubbard originally started her research career during her undergraduate education at the University of Florida, working with Dr. Thomas Kaminski.  She continued to work with Dr. Kaminski in her Masters program and then moved to Penn State University where she worked with Dr. Jay Hertel and was awarded a PhD.  Her Masters and PhD work have allowed her to further her knowledge in the area of ankle instability and to create her own niche specifically examining the contribution ligament injury has on chronic joint injury.  Her research program in conjunction with her five years of direct clinical experience has currently resulted in sixteen peer-reviewed scientific publications and numerous national and international presentations.   Dr. Hubbard  is involved in numerous service activities in her community, her University, and within the profession of Athletic Training.
